Observations about Cambodia and Southeast Asia

Land Mines have taken a terrible toil on Cambodia.  Over 63,000 victims in this country alone.  Today at the Bantey Srei Temple a musical group played for us.  I have a photo and will post later.  Princess Diana led the campaign to rid the country of them and is revered her here.

Plastic bags have caused unsightly litter in this developing country.

In a country that once had many elephants only 50 remain today, the rest poached for the ivory.

A drought in Cambodia is responsible for the horribly skinny animals that we see.  No rain, little grass for the animals

Our guides call the bathrooms "happy room" and advise us to stick together like sticky rice.  Sometimes it is a little like kindergarten...

Fruit here is fantastic.  Mango still my favorite but the watermelon is great, dragon fruit is beautiful on the outside but white with tiny black seeds and tasteless, durian smells like rotting fruit but is tasty (haven't tried it yet), jack fruit is yellow with a pit and very good.

Termite mounds are interesting but small compared to those we saw in Africa.

The Cambodians have Spirit Houses, like the Thais, but seem to honor ancestors rather than displaced spirits.

Many rural homes are built on stilts.

The jungle has hidden many temples for centuries.
