Arab Street. Muslim's performing the Hadj-the pilgrimage to Mecca-would stay here waiting for favorable winds to continue their journey. They could, and still do, purchase necessary religious supplies here. Reflective of the inclusionary culture of Singapore is the fact that one of the main stores where one can purchase these materials was started 80 years ago by a Hindu family. They still own and operate the shop. This is also the narrowest street in the city.
